Thinking Outside the Office

Go Back

I can't think of anyone who really enjoys meetings. They're usually drawn out longer than necessary inside a stuffy conference room with too many people. Now that it's summer, it's the perfect opportunity to host some of your meetings outside the office. Not only is it a nice change of pace to get outside and enjoy the nicer weather, but it's a great way to boost your employees' creativity and energy and add a nice break into the usual routine.

With today's digital world, its easier now more than ever to hold meetings outside. Laptops, tablets, phones and wifi access make it a easy to take notes and hold a productive meeting just as you would indoors.

You don't have to limit your meeting to sitting right outside the office. If there's a nice local coffee shop or restaurant with an outdoor terrace, whynot switch things up and try holding a casual lunch meeting over breakfast or lunch? When people are outside the office, they usually let their guard down a little and show more of who they are, which is a great opportunity to get to know your employees on a more personal level.

Below are a couple of ideas to take advantage of outdoor meetings:

  • Meet at a nearby coffee shop
  • Sit outside of your company's office in the patio/break area if you have one
  • Have a casual lunch meeting at a nearby restaurant
  • Go for a small outing or walk at a nearby park or trail

If you want to get really fancy, this site has some great inspiration and tools to host larger meetings outside the office.

These are just some ideas, but the options are endless, so start planning some outdoor meetings and get out there and enjoy the nice weather!
